about the MENTORSHIP inITIative
The Humanities Mentorship Initiative (HMI) is a program offered by the MHS to assist in the social and academic transition of Level I Humanities students. Our focus is to create an inclusive group of mentors and mentees that will work together to overcome issues, learn new skills, and meet new people.
Upper-year mentor and first-year mentee applications are open throughout the summer. Mentors are then matched with mentees who have common interests, and more specifically, with mentees who are interested in the same Humanities program as them. Mentees can go to their mentor for academic and social support and meet with them at mentorship events hosted throughout the school year.
Mentee Criteria: Must be a first-year Humanities student
Mentor Criteria: Must be an upper-year (Year 2+) Humanities student
Students in Level II or above from any Humanities major can apply to be a mentor! By applying to be a mentor to an incoming first year Humanities student, you will provide support, answer questions, and offer advice to first years as they transition into university. You will also get to meet up with your mentee at mentorship events that will be hosted throughout the school year, whether they be online or in person.
MENTOR APPLICATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED.
The Mentorship initiative is how you can be paired with a upper-year Humanities student who will help guide you through your first-year at McMaster! There will be an event every 4-6 weeks that will give you the opportunity to bond with your mentor and make some friends that will stick with you during your 4 years at McMaster and beyond. Your mentor will also be there for you outside of these events and most tend to become great pals!
MENTEE APPLICATIONS ARE CLOSED.
